With just two goals conceded last weekend, Manchester Phoenix netminder Scott Fankhouser has been nominated by the bmibaby Elite League statisticians as Player of the Week.
Fankhouser's play over the last two weekends, that has seen the Phoenix take a maximum eight points from their last four games, has helped lift the club into its highest ever position in the bmibaby Elite League.
Last weekend, the 32-year old shot-stopper from Bismarck, North Dakota faced a total of 67 shots in games against the Basingstoke Bison and Nottingham Panthers and with only two goals, one in each game, conceded his save percentage for the weekend was 97.01%.
A Phoenix spokesperson remarked, "Our summertime recruiting research suggested that Scott was the kind of goalie who could post those kind of numbers, so it's a pleasing statistic to read. We've got two tough games again this weekend, but confidence is growing and we look forward to the challenges ahead of us."
Saturday sees the Edinburgh Capitals visit the Silver Blades Ice Dome in Altrincham for a Challenge Cup tie that faces off at 6.30pm. The Phoenix take to the road on Sunday for their first trip of the season to the Coventry Blaze.
