Bracknell Bees 3 - Manchester Phoenix 8

Phoenix Scorers: Bari McKenzie x 2, Michal Psurny, James Archer, Liam Chong, Andrew McKinney, Luke Boothroyd and Joachim Flaten.

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix scored 6 unanswered goals in the second half of the match to record a comprehensive victory over the Bracknell Bees.

Bees D-man Jan Bendik gave the home side the lead after 6.20 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Scott Spearing and Shaun Thompson. The visitors hit back with a Bari McKenzie goal after 10.15, assisted by James Archer and Tom Duggan.  That ended the scoring for the first period with nothing between the teams.

Veteran Martin Masa regained the lead for the Bees four minutes into the second period, assisted by Jan Bendik but, once again, Phoenix showed their bouncebackability 3 minutes later with Bari McKenzie’s second of the night and fourth of the weekend. The goal, on the powerplay, was assisted by Michal Psurny and Ondrej Pozivil. Bracknell are a tough team at home and took the lead for the third time just 14 seconds later with Martin Masa’s second of the evening, assisted by Shaun Thompson. Phoenix then had their best period of the game so far and two goals in 5 minutes gave them a 4-3 lead at the end of the second period. Michal Psurny’s powerplay effort after 33.17 was assisted by defencemen Robert Schnabel and Ondrej Pozivil. With just 71 seconds left in the second period James Archer got on the scoresheet, assisted by Luke Boothroyd and Bari McKenzie. No more scoring in the period and Phoenix went to the second break with a 4-3 lead.

Liam Chong got himself on the scoresheet with just less than 3 minutes on the clock in the final period to give Phoenix a two goal advantage for the first time in the game. Assists went to Luke Boothroyd and Tom Duggan. Bracknell were struggling to contain a clinical Phoenix side and fell further behind on 52.13. Andrew McKinney scored with assists going to Michal Psurny and Joachim Flaten. That was the end of the evening for Tom Annetts and he was replaced by Carl Ambler. Things did not get any better for the home side and the back-up nettie was picking the puck out of the net twice in 41 seconds. Luke Boothroyd scored on 54.03 after a pass by Tom Duggan and Joachim Flaten scored an eighth for Phoenix soon after with assists going to Michal Psurny and Tom Duggan (his fourth of the night).

A superb road win for rampant Phoenix who scored 15 goals in a four point weekend. Tom Duggan was deservedly awarded Man of the Match for his four assists and a typical 110% show from the energetic forward.

Phoenix are making the rest of the league take notice as they power their way to the play-offs with a 4 point weekend and a five game league winning streak.

Telford are Phoenix’s next opponents on Saturday and then back to the Dome for a local derby against the Sheffield Steeldogs with a 17.30 face off.
