Peterborough Phantoms 3 - Manchester Phoenix 4
Manchester Phoenix scorers: Juraj Faith (2), Tom Duggan and Slava Koulikov.
Phoenix travelled down to Peterborough, looking for 2 points, still without Tony Hand, Stephen Wallace and Josh Ward. They got off to a great start when Tom Duggan scored after 1.09. The period was fast-paced by both sides, despite being littered with penalties. Stephen Fone protected the lead with two fine saves. End of the first and the visitors well worth their 1-0 lead.
A blitz start to the second period for the Phoenix saw Juraj Faith score two goals in just over two minutes, giving them a 3-0 advantage. Richard Bentham reduced the lead 20 seconds after that and the Phantoms had Phoenix on the back foot for a spell. However it was Phoenix who increased their lead on 28.32 with a fine goal from Slava Koulikov.
The third was again full of niggly penalties and Phantoms brought the score back to 4-3 with goals from Bentham (his second of the night) and Nathan Pollard and threw everything but the kitchen sink at Phoenix for the last two or three minutes. Phoenix stood tall and held on for a vital two points.
Coach Hand said after the game: “The team played well again tonight and battled hard for the points. It is never easy to get anything in Peterborough’s barn. A well-deserved man of the match for Juraj. It was a nervy last few minutes but the lads deserved the win.”
