Manchester Phoenix coach Tony Hand has moved decisively to sign Great Britain defenceman Luke Boothroyd from the Hull Stingrays.
The 21-year old from Huddersfield becomes Hands' third British signing of the summer, following the re-signing of Carl Graham and Phil Hamer, as he looks to reshape his Phoenix squad for the 2008-09 bmibaby Elite League campaign.
The veteran Scot noted, "I watched Luke with interest while we were away with the Great Britain squad in Austria and he goes about his business in a very sensible manner. He's a good young prospect and I was a little surprised to learn that Hull hadn't made him an offer yet. We spoke and came to terms very quickly and I'm sure he'll do a great job for us."
Right-shot Luke Boothroyd stands 5ft 11ins and tips the scales at 180lbs and he commented on signing for the Phoenix, "It was good to talk to Tony and hear he was interested in signing me, and I'm looking forward greatly to the challenge. I like to think I read the game quite well, like to handle the puck and contribute offensively when I get the chance."
Asked what his goals are the Yorkshire-born blueliner added, "I'd love to get to and play in a Playoff Final with Manchester and I want to be a regular in the national team. It was a great experience to go to the World Championships and I'm sure playing for and being coached by Tony will help me achieve both targets."
