Manchester Phoenix will complete the 2007/08 season without the services of Scottish forward Matt Rich.
Rich didn’t figure in the Phoenix line-up until mid-December having contracted a severe bout of salmonella whilst on holiday in the summer. He battled back to fitness, but his progress has again been hampered by a recent knee injury.
Rich has been receiving physiotherapy for the past two weeks, but the response has been slow and he will now go for an MRI scan to determine if surgery may be required to correct the nagging injury.
A Phoenix spokesperson noted, “Matt has certainly not had the best of years, but he’s never once complained or given in. This past week, he’s tried to train to see if he could work off the injury, but it wasn’t to be. We’ve consulted with the physio and the scan is the right thing to do. Hopefully, he won’t need surgery, but the current situation is such that he is unlikely to figure in a Phoenix shirt again this season."
