Former Minnesota Wild draft pick Brian Passmore is the latest piece in the jigsaw of the new Manchester Phoenix playing roster for season 2007-08.
“Brian is a good signing for us as he will bring good offensive qualities to the team,” noted Phoenix player/coach Tony Hand. “He had a good career in both junior and college hockey and his point production certainly in the last two seasons has been very respectable, not far off a point a game. He knows a couple of guys on the team already and they’ve spoken well of him as have the other people we’ve taken references from, I’m confident he’ll do a very good job for us this year.”
Canadian by birth from Mississauga in Ontario, 27-year old left-shot forward Brian Passmore stands 5ft 11ins, and tips the scales at 190lbs. Drafted in the 7th round of the 2000 NHL entry draft by the Minnesota Wild, his versatility means he can play at centre or on either wing.
Commenting on signing for the Phoenix he remarked, “I played the first half of last season in Norway with Lillehammer, but the team struggled and it didn’t really work out for me, so I went back to Augusta where I started over again and had a pretty solid second half to the season. I was still interested in playing in Europe and no language issue in the UK was an obvious direction to pursue. I talked with Tony and he excited me, and I know Brett Clouthier, and he said only good things about Manchester as well. I know Jeff (MacMillan) and Simon (Mangos) too, so I’m looking forward to getting there and meeting the rest of the team at training camp.”
