Phoenix opener put on ice for 24 hours

Friday, 16th February 2007

On advice from the ice technicians working at the new Altrincham Ice Dome, Manchester Phoenix have reluctantly postponed Saturday nights opening game against the Edinburgh Capitals. Sunday’s game against the MobilX Newcastle Vipers will go ahead as scheduled.

A spokesperson for the ice company commented, “the ice is forming well, but the ambient temperature inside the building over the past 48 hours has not been low enough for the ice to set as hard as needs be for a game to take place. Another 24 hours is needed to ensure the correct level of cold in the air and the solidity of the ice.”

A Phoenix spokesperson added, “the safety of the players is paramount in this decision and if the ice engineers say the ice might not be hard enough on Saturday, then the game cannot go-ahead as planned. We have been in contact with Edinburgh and advised them of the situation fully and we are both working to try and re-schedule the game for Thursday evening next week. It goes without saying that everyone who has bought a ticket for the Edinburgh game will be able to use them next Thursday or indeed if the game has to re-scheduled to a later date.”
