Manchester Phoenix coach Tony Hand has expressed disappointment at the decision of forward Robin Gomez to leave the club to return to North America.
"Gomer has had a little difficulty settling here and came to me about a week ago and told me that he'd got interest from a club in the East Coast Hockey League and that he wanted to take up the offer," said the Phoenix player/coach. "We asked him to have long think about the situation and he did, but he's asked for his release in order to join the team in Victoria BC next week."
Gomez will make his final appearance for the Phoenix on Saturday when they travel to Sheffield to take on the Steelers before leaving for North America early next week.
Phoenix GM Andy Costigan added, "Since Robin told us of his thinking, we've been searching for a suitable replacement and we have identified a couple of players. We're in talks with a couple of people and hope to have a new player in the line-up as quickly as possible as we've got some huge games coming as well as the move into the new arena in Altrincham."
