Honest Hutchinson takes tough decision

Tuesday, 3rd October 2006

Manchester Phoenix forward James Hutchinson has asked to be released from his contract with immediate effect.

The 22-year old Geordie joined the Phoenix in the summer and had played left wing on the line with fellow British players Adam Walker and Joe Miller.

Speaking of his request James said, "this is entirely my decision and I want to go on record to thank Tony and everyone at the club for the opportunity they gave me. When I signed, Tony told me he wanted me to play as a forward as he had already completed his defensive line-up and I was happy to give it my best shot. Tony has been great with me as have all the players but, I've struggled to adapt into the role and the way I look at it, if I don't feel happy with my game, then I could hurt the club and that's the last thing I want to do.”

Hutchinson added, “This was a tough decision as I've been made so welcome in Manchester, the club have really gone out of their way to help all the players settle in and it hurts to leave this way, but I honestly think it's for the best."

Phoenix player coach Tony Hand commented, "James talked to me a couple of days ago about his form and I could sense he wasn't happy with his game. Ironically, he had a good weekend for us but, we spoke again on Monday and he confirmed his wish to be released. I want to thank him for his efforts and his honesty, it takes a lot to be so frank about yourself and we all wish him the best for the future."

The Phoenix will look to replace Hutchinson as quickly as possible to keep the squad numbers up and to fill that wingman role on the third line. GM Andy Costigan added, "we didn't envisage having to make any changes or to replace anybody, but we always keep our eyes and ears open just in case - that effort has just been raised to a higher level."

Phoenix are next in action on Sunday when they take on the MobilX Vipers at Deeside with a 7.00pm face off time.
