The Elite Ice Hockey League have released the fixture list for the month of September.
The Phoenix will return to competitive hockey with several fixtures on the road as they await the final completion of the new Altrincham Ice Dome. The opening weekend consists of a road double header, beginning on Saturday 9th of September as the Phoenix travel to meet the Edinburgh Capitals before heading down the East Coast overnight to visit the newcomers to the Elite League, the Hull Stingrays.
The following weekend has a Saturday visit to the National Ice Centre to meet the Nottingham Panthers.
The weekend of 23rd and 24th September will be highly anticpated as the Phoenix take on the Sheffield Steelers in a "home and home" series. After travelling to the House of Steel for the Saturday game, Tony Hand brings the team back over the Pennines to again play the Steelers in what is projected to be the very first fixture at the Ice Dome.
Please note that the club and building contractors are confident that the Ice Dome will be ready for the visit of Sheffield on the 24th September, but if the new building is not ready in time, the game will be played at Deeside. If the game is to be moved, full details will be posted on the Phoenix web site.
On releasing the initial set of fixtures, Elite League Chairman Eamon Convery said that "Fixture setting has complications and this year the league had to deal with the additional logistical issues of new rinks being built in both Manchester and Cardiff, plus the addition of a new Elite League team in Hull. I very much appreciate that club supporters have been awaiting the release of the fixtures and thank them for their patience and understanding."
The league is still working on a few matters and it is hoped that the full schedule will be released early next week.
