Basingstoke Bison continued their fine run of form against the Manchester Phoenix in the MEN Arena this season with a three-one road win.
Phoenix got off to the perfect start with Mika Skytta scoring in the second minute but Blake Sorenson equalised just past the midway point of the first period. Sorenson notched his second of the game with a short-handed effort just under four minutes into the second session to put the visitors in the driving seat. Basingstoke completed the scoring with David Geris re-directing a shot from player/coach Steve Moria in the 48th minute and try as they could, Phoenix could not dent the Bison rearguard in the time remaining.
A very disappointed head coach Rick Brebant said, “Before the game, we had good meetings, good special team talks and the mood appeared to be right. We got a great start and then failed to capitalise. Their goalie made some incredible saves, but we didn’t work him as hard as we could have or should have and then we made mistakes that gifted them two goals and we should have never given away the third goal in the manner we did. We have a lot of hard thinking to do before next weekend, because we’re coming into a critical calendar of games.”
