Phoenix take to the ice again in Swindon

Sunday, 22nd January 2017

Manchester Phoenix were able to take to the ice in Swindon on Saturday night, with the Wildcats running out 5-0 winners.

With no imports remaining at the club and icing five players from the Bristol Pitbulls, it was a new-look Phoenix team.  It was the home side who dominated the opening period but could only grab the one goal through Jonas Hoog at 14:52 which allowed the Swindon fans to launch their teddy bear toss.  Steve Fone made a number of good stops to keep Phoenix in the game as the period drew to a close.

The start of the second period gave Phoenix the best opportunity to get on the scoreboard however Swindon kept out a 5 on 3 powerplay before Michael Stratford doubled the home side’s lead at 33:02.  This was quickly followed by a Phil Hill goal 15 seconds later as the period ended 3-0.

The third period was a more sedate affair although Swindon were still able to register two more goals from Max Birbraer at 46:51 and Adam Finlinson at 51:03.  Phoenix gave back-up netminder Ross Miller his first taste of EPL action late on as the game ended 5-0.

Phoenix were also presented with a £1,000 donation from the Swindon Wildcats Supporters Club – a magnificent gesture as Phoenix continue to put a rescue plan in place.
