Phoenix old-boy Michal Satek proved the difference with a hat trick as the Telford Tigers claimed a 4-2 win on Saturday night.
Telford, with the luxury of icing seven more players than Phoenix, unsurprisingly dominated large portions of the play and broke the deadlock through Matthew Davies at 8:56. The lead was quickly doubled as Satek converted a pass from Davies at 12:44.
Phoenix struck back late in the period however as Marek Indra set up Edgars Bebris at 16:19, and following a penalty to Greg Pick, Joni Tuominen set Roman Malinik away shorthanded and he levelled matters at 19:06.
The second period continued in a similar vein but without any further additions to the scoreboard as Stephen Fone stopped 16 shots and Telford were also denied by the post. The decisive goal arrived at 43:39 with Satek’s second of the night, and as the Phoenix players began to tire, Satek converted his hat trick late on at 58:08.
Phoenix are at home tonight against the Swindon Wildcats, with a 5pm face-off in Blackpool.
