Jacob takes centre stage in Bracknell

Sunday, 28th February 2016

The Manchester Phoenix claimed a 6-2 win in Bracknell on Saturday night in a Red Hockey Cup encounter, with Jacob Corson-Heron registering a three minute hat trick in the final period.

It was Phoenix who dominated the opening exchanges but Bees netminder Matt Smital made a number of saves to keep the score goalless, before Bracknell took the lead late in the period as James Galazzi found the top corner at 18:09.

Phoenix took advantage of a 5-on-3 Powerplay in the second period as Michal Satek roofed the puck over Smital at 30:36 after being set up by Corson-Heron.  Shortly after, Satek set up Stanislav Gron who slotted home at 35:34 to give Phoenix their first lead of the night.

Phoenix sealed the victory with a three goal blitz early in the final period.  Corson-Heron got his first of the night at 41:24 when he scored from his knees, and just 16 seconds later, Ben Wood set him up to score again.  The natural hat trick was complete at 44:20 as Corson-Heron converted a pass from Gron to make it 5-1.

Bracknell responded and Alex Barker netted for the home side at 45:47 and the Bees continued to create chances throughout the period but Phil Spanswick stood firm in the Phoenix goal.  It was the visitors who had the last word at 53:29 as Satek netted his second unassisted as the game ended 6-2.

Phoenix are at home on Sunday evening when they host the Bracknell Bees in Deeside with a 6:30pm face-off.
