Manchester Phoenix will bid farewell to Slovakian forward Miroslav Skovira having agreed to his release, but in the safe knowledge that his replacement will arrive very shortly.
Miroslav Skovira is returning to his homeland to play for former club HC Kosice and to be closer to his father who suffered a heart attack shortly before Christmas and faces surgery for a triple heart by-pass. Everyone connected with the club wishes Miroslav the best for the future and his father a speedy recovery.
Phoenix head coach Rick Brebant commented, “when Miroslav heard about his father, we started making contingency plans in case of his wanting to go home. We began to scour the agents looking for a forward just in case and we got an agreement with a player between Christmas and New Year. I’m pleased to advise that travel arrangements permitting, the new guy will be Manchester in time for Friday’s trip to London.”
Brebant continued, “It seems like we’ve been hunting for players almost everyday of the season as things have come up that have seen players leaving ahead of expectations. When we signed Skovy, we thought he had a real gem and when he was on form he was electric. His form dipped in December but he returned from his trip home and played well. I expect the new player to give us a little bit more directness and grit through the middle, so we won’t suffer up front – it’s a pretty simple case of one in, one out and we move on.”
Phoenix officials hope to make the official announcement as early as Wednesday, once the new players paperwork has been cleared and the travel arrangements confirmed.
