Phoenix return to the ice against MK

Friday, 30th October 2015

Manchester Phoenix will host the Milton Keynes Lightning in Deeside on Sunday evening for our first home game in two weeks.

Due to ice plant issues in Deeside which have now been resolved, Phoenix had to reschedule last weekend’s home against Bracknell, but the team will be looking to put this behind them as they host the high-flying Lightning.

Phoenix sit seventh in the league table going into this weekend’s games; level on points with Telford and just a point behind Swindon.  MK meanwhile have had a strong start to the season under new Head Coach Pete Russell and currently sit top, however both Peterborough and Basingstoke are just a point behind with two games in hand.

Phoenix and MK have met twice already this season, with Phoenix claiming a 4-2 home win on opening weekend thanks to two goals from Stanislav Gron.  MK got their revenge earlier in the month with a 6-4 win on home ice despite two Robin Kovar goals.  Kovar himself has managed seven points during these two encounters, and will be looking to extend his streak this weekend.

Milton Keynes embarked on a significant overhaul of their playing squad over the summer, bringing in two Finnish forwards, Markku Tahtinen and Marko Luomala, and free scoring Slovakian forward Rene Jarolin from Elite League side Edinburgh.  A number of young British players were also signed, including Bobby Chamberlain and Jack Watkins from the Phoenix, and the club then managed to convince highly rated forward Jordan Cownie to return to the club from Braehead a few weeks ago.

Face-off in Deeside will be at 6:30pm on Sunday evening and tickets are still available online.
