The stalwart defenceman, now in his seventh year with the Phoenix, will form the backbone of a squad that many expect to challenge for the EPL title next season.
Neil’s record of two championships with Manchester could prove crucial in his side fortunes, following two final appearances in the previous campaign.
With Head Coach Tony Hand having already recruited a string of previous title winners, Neil is confident the Phoenix will improve on last season’s record.
He said: “It was such a rollercoaster year, with so many ups and downs, to reach two major finals and not win anything was tough. Both the play-offs and British Challenge Cup will be in our sights next year, that’s for sure."
“It was a big achievement, though, to get that far, so we must still be proud of our record. We played a lot of games in a short time towards the end of the season, and fitness was a big part of that.
“The fans, though, were magnificent and they’re a big reason why I decided to return. Even when we lost in those finals, and especially the play-offs, the backing they gave us was non-stop.
“Tony Hand has made some great signings and I know he is working on getting some big names here. Fans should watch this space, because the summer is going to be very interesting.”
That Phoenix squad, which now includes former Sheffield Steelers star Mark Thomas, is already shaping up to be a key challenger for honours.
“Mark has got a fantastic track record, so to bring him in at this stage of his career is great for the club,” Neil said.
“He is still playing at his peak and with Luke Boothroyd hopefully with us in defence, it is looking very good for next season.”
Plans for a 3,000-seater arena in the city centre, meanwhile, are set to transform the club’s fortunes – and Neil is keen to be part of that future.
He added: “It is hard not to be excited about playing in an arena in the middle of Manchester city centre. Of course, we are still waiting for work to start, but I’m just here to play hockey.
“I love the game, so the main thing for me is that I’m in a team with a great bunch of guys and fans who are truly faithful to the club. I just want to get on with the season.”
