The Manchester Phoenix will attempt to make History this Thursday, the 12th March at the Silverblades Ice Dome. They will take on the mighty Telford Tigers who have already taken the Divisional Championship only last week. Phoenix have not been in The British Challenge Cup final for 9 years now, the last time they made it this far they lost to The Belfast Giants by a goal over the water.
Phoenix have been ripped apart with injuries this season but have still managed to put on some outstanding performances at home in front of their loyal fans known as the Faithful. They have already dispatched two teams placed above them in the Premier League this season to earn their place in this Cup.
We asked Tony Hand, the Coach of the Phoenix how he had managed with most of his star players missing for an average 6 weeks of the season. “It’s been tough, I have to be honest I don’t think I have been in a squad this unlucky in my career so far. You just have to stick together as a squad and pick up the slack. I have to be fair to the guys they are all up for this game, we will take it to Telford just like we have all season”.
Phoenix are likely to have line up with one of their star forwards missing, Michal Psurny and we will still be missing the League’s MVP, defender Luke Boothroyd who looks like he will be out for the rest of the season.
So why don’t you come and be part of history tomorrow when The Phoenix face off at 19.30 in The British Challenge Cup at the Silverblades Ice Dome, Altrincham.
