Well it looks like we are back to the early days with what looks to be “Mission Impossible” at least that is the new motto Hand & Morris seem to have adopted for 2015 in the Phoenix camp. It would seem they have not had many games in 2014 without either illness or injury in their camp. Combine that with most teams adding depth and strength to their squads and it won’t take you long to see why they have decided that this season could be “Mission Impossible”.
Like the film the duo always seem to adopt a never say die attitude, and as each exciting chapter unfolds they seem to find a way to stay in the game. How can a team like Manchester just keep finding points with at times key forwards unable to play, their player coach missing, one of the best keepers in the league out and guys carrying a multitude of viruses in and out of the changing room on a weekly basis is beyond apprehension.
Well the Last years League Champions was hoping for a good positive start to the New Year, but no they were greeted in the Phoenix camp with the news that Cool hand Luke Boothroyd last year’s Player Of The year has sustained an of ice injury to his hand and may be out now for the next six weeks. This was combined with confirmation that Forward Jacob Corson Heron who took a 60mph puck to the face just before New Year has a fractured jaw bone.
When their Coach Tony Hand was asked do you not feel like just giving up at times he said “No never it’s not the mentality of the club to ever give up, it just makes me more resilient. Sure it makes my job a hell of a lot harder but that is what sport is all about stick with the club’s motto Serva Fidem (Keep The Faith) and we will prevail”.
Their owner Neil Morris said “the situation has all the ingredients of showing just what a championship team has in the locker room, combine that with the Fans of Manchester and we still have a reason to fight for every point and come and watch we will. Remember at The Phoenix it is never over until the lady from that well known slimming club sings” Phoenix will take on last season’s Play Off Champions the Basingstoke Bison tomorrow night Sunday 5:30pm face off at the Silver Blades Ice Dome, Altrincham.
