Telford Tigers 1 - Manchester Phoenix 5
Phoenix Scorers: Michal Psurny, Frantisek Bakrlik, Liam Chong, Robin Kovar and Joe Graham.
J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix got their league campaign off to a great start with an emphatic win at Telford. A blistering 68 seconds in the first period saw Phoenix score three unanswered goals. Michal Psurny got the first on the powerplay with an unassisted goal. Frankie Bakrlik made it two at 10.44, assisted by Tony Hand and Michal Psurny and the third came thirteen seconds later as the third line got in on the act with Liam Chong scoring, assisted by Joe Graham and Richard Bentham. End of the period and Phoenix ahead by three goals to nil.
Telford, understandably, took the game to Phoenix for parts of the second period but it was the visitors who increased their lead with a great individual effort from Robin Kovar. Telford got themselves on the scoresheet on 32.49 with a Nathan Salem powerplay goal.
The third period was fairly uneventful and the only score of the stanza was Joe Graham’s first goal since re-joining the club with 40 seconds left in the game. Assists went to Robin Kovar and Michal Psurny.
Stephen Fone was awarded the Phoenix man of the match and the whole squad will go into Sunday’s encounter, with the Sheffield Steeldogs, looking for their first 4 point weekend of the season.
