J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix will face their bitter rivals, Sheffield Steeldogs in the annual War of the Roses clash.
Phoenix will trek across the hills on Saturday 7th September to Ice Sheffield, facing off at 7.30pm and the return leg will be at The Dome the following day, Sunday 8th September, with our usual face off of 5.30pm.
Steeldogs shocked Phoenix last season with a deserved victory over the two legs after a thrilling 3-2 win in Sheffield, followed by a disciplined showing in a 0-0 draw in Altrincham. This was the first time in 4 attempts the Dogs had prevailed over Phoenix.
Sheffield have made a number of changes since last season and it will be up to the regular Sheffield stalwarts like Greg Wood and Steve Duncombe to let the newbies know just how much the game means to the fans. André Payette will be doing his best to put another one over his coaching mentor, Tony Hand, and there can be no doubt that the Phoenix lads want the trophy back where it belongs. There could be a bit of extra spice now the league fixtures are out and the two teams will battle against each other in league action at the Dome the following weekend.
Coach Hand said: “These games are always competitive and it will give both André and myself the opportunity to see our new lads in game situations.”
