Here we go again

Friday, 14th September 2012

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix begin their 2012-13 English Premier League campaign with a road trip to Swindon to meet the local Wildcats on Saturday 15th September and have their opening home league match against the Basingstoke Bison on Sunday 16th September with the usual face off at 1730hrs.

Swindon have changed two of their imports, releasing Jaroslav Cesky and Michal Pinc and recruiting Matius Perkkio from Finland and Michal Kapicka from the Czech Republic. They have retained the services of the evergreen Jan Melichar at the back and prolific scorer Jonas Hoog up front. The rest of the squad is mostly unchanged . Swindon look very potent up front and defences around the league will have to keep a close eye on their forwards.

Phoenix had a very good result down in Wiltshire in the play off quarter finals and will be looking to bring the points back to Altrincham and get off to a good start.

The following night sees the Basingstoke Bison hit town. Games between these two teams are never dull and a great night’s entertainment is almost a certainty.

Bison have made some major changes with a complete revamp of their imports. Player coach Steve Moria has retired, Petran has moved to Bracknell and Kubenko, Volrab and Dubec have also moved on to pastures new.  In their places come Tomas Fjotek from the Czech Republic and forwards Greg Chambers, Joe Rand and player coach Doug Sheppard.
Add Joe Greener from Slough and ex-Phoenix forward Joe Miller and they, too, should find the net on a regular basis. At the other end, ex-Elite League netminder Stevie Lyle has joined the Herd in what could be a title-winning signing.

Phoenix have had a hard week’s practice and are eager to bounce back after the disappointing Roses defeat and show the faithful they have a team to challenge for honours again this season.

So forget the War of the Roses, the work starts now and continues until March. Be there to cheer on the lads to victory at the Dome on Sunday. Be loud and proud for your very own Manchester Phoenix.
