J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are pleased to announce the signing of Scott McKenzie for the 2012-13 season.
The 26 year old Livingston-born player is no stranger to the EPL, having iced in 339 games in his career.
His first season in the EPL was as a 16 year old with Chelmsford Chieftains. He scored 8 goals and 9 assists in 14 games that year and improved his stats considerably the following season with 22 goals and 24 assists in 29 games, following that up with a 4+4 in the play offs.
2005 saw him move to Slough Jets for a year in which he made two loan appearances in the Elite League with the London Racers. Romford was next for the travelling Scotsman where he plied his trade for a season before returning to the Chieftains the following year. Back to Romford for the 2008-09 season and his scoring record of 37+24 caught the eye of the Edinburgh Capitals and a season in the Elite League ensued.
Telford was his next port of call and he was given an assistant captain role for the newly re-formed Shropshire outfit and he rewarded them with a tidy 30 goals and 35 assists. He also found time to play a further 3 games for the Capitals. Last season saw him again put up impressive figures with 25 goals and 30 assists. That was enough to convince Tony Hand to give him a call and he will now ice at the Dome this coming season.
Scott had this to say about joining Phoenix: “I thoroughly enjoyed my two years with Telford. They are a great organisation and I wish them all the best. However, I want to have the opportunity to win trophies and, when Tony got in touch, it was a no brainer for me. Manchester are a big club and have fantastic fans and I am really looking forward to pulling on a Phoenix shirt. I am very excited about working with Tony Hand as I watched him playing for the Murrayfield Racers when I supported them as a lad and cannot wait for the season to start.”
Coach Hand, speaking from his Edinburgh home, had this to say about McKenzie: “Scott will be a good addition to the squad. He has had two good seasons with Telford, scoring at roughly a point a game and I expect him to put up some good numbers for us. He is a good all round player who will fit in to our method of play.”
