Manchester Phoenix forward David Kozier is doubtful for Tuesday’s Elite League clash with the London Racers having limped out of Sunday’s victory over the Cardiff Devils.
Kozier sustained a knee injury late in the second period and spent the remainder of the game receiving treatment in the Phoenix medical suite from the team doctor and physiotherapist. Kozier suffered a hyper-extension of his knee and received ice-pack treatment in the medical suite. He will undergo a more detailed examination on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury.
Head coach Rick Brebant advised, “It’s not my decision as to whether Kozy or any of the other guys nursing knocks will be ready in time for Tuesday. Kozy is the most doubtful and I’ll await the report for the doctor and physio on Monday before we make any decision. I have to take their advice – that’s why we have them here every game to look after the players and the clubs best interests.”
Brebant himself left Sunday’s game icing a swelling under his left eye while centreman Shin Larsson-Yahata also received ice-pack treatment on an aching knee. Stockport winger Mark Thomas who was only used sparingly on Sunday is improving and will play on Tuesday while another locally trained player Brian Worrall is still recovering from a fractured wrist but expects to be available for the Deeside clash with London.
Brebant added, “we have a few bumps and bruises, but that’s the nature of the game. We’ll be ready for Tuesday, if we have to adjust the lines we will do – we want another win to set us up for the Belfast game next weekend, because then we’re on the road for the rest of November. These next two games are vital to us in terms of momentum.”
