Tony to hand Phoenix a major boost

Friday, 2nd March 2012

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are very pleased to announce that player coach Tony Hand is recovering well from his broken ankle and will play a part in this weekend’s games against Swindon Wildcats.

Tony has been out for nearly three months with the worst injury of his long career. The team has been playing very well in his absence but everybody will be pleased at the return of the Phoenix talisman. On his return, Phoenix will be close to icing a full squad for the first time in the league this season, having been unable to do so since the first pre season game against the Sheffield Steeldogs.

Tony, who has iced 129 games in the EPL for Phoenix, amassing 284 points, has only iced in 15 games this season and has been a big loss to the club.

Coach Hand said after training on Thursday night: “I felt good in training tonight but I have been out for nearly three months and it will take a while to get match fit. The team has been playing very well since I have been out and I intend to ease myself back into the squad. It will take me a few weeks to get up to speed. I intend to play on Sunday and see how it goes and take it from there.”

Phoenix will certainly welcome his return as the business end of the season approaches and teams gear up for the play offs.
