Phoenix on the road this weekend

Thursday, 5th January 2012

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix have two games on the road this weekend. Phoenix fans will have to travel way down south to Slough on Saturday and over to Shropshire on Sunday if they want to support their heroes.

Phoenix suffered a horrendous 9-0 reverse last time they played at the Hangar and will be keen to avenge that result. Slough have a potent offence with Adam Calder, Darius Pliskauskas, Doug Sheppard and British power forward Joe Greener all getting among the points. Add exciting prospect Dan Davies and blue line scorer Mindy Kieras and you can see why they are up near the top of the league. Phoenix have scorers themselves though, with the league’s top goalscorer Martin Cingel getting among the goals every week and Juraj Faith having a great run of form setting them up.

On Sunday, Phoenix make the short journey over to Telford to take on the league’s bottom club. Not that they will be taking them lightly. Phoenix lost on penalties last time they visited the Tigers and will be keen to put the record straight. Telford’s top line of Josh Bruce, Scott McKenzie and Joe Henry are all in the high twenties in the scoring charts and can be a dangerous outfit.

Coach Hand said of the upcoming weekend on the road: “Slough gave us a bit of a beating last time out and the lads are keen to bite back. They are a good side but we are playing well at the moment and go into the game with confidence. Telford are a tricky side and can be tough to play against and we have to be ready for them. On the injury front, Tom Duggan is being assessed daily and no decision has been made as to his readiness just yet. The team are playing well and we want to keep the level up and pick up points over the weekend to climb the table.”

Be loud and proud for Manchester Phoenix if you are travelling to the games this weekend. Coach Hand and the players all appreciate the fantastic support you give to the team.

If you cannot make the Telford game on Sunday, why not go over to the Dome and support the Metros in their table topping clash against Whitley Bay? Face off 1715hrs.
