As many of you no doubt realised this was just our little April Fools joke. For those of you that missed it, the full item is left here for posterity!
This weekend's Play-Off quarter final home game will see the curtain come down on the Phoenix's home season for 2010-2011, but it will also see the end of another era in Manchester hockey history. The Match Night Media Crew, in association with Bolton University, have been poached by rival EPL team the Sheffield Steeldogs, and will be handling the Steeldogs' media operations for the 2011-2012 season.
"It was a hard decision to make," says Ash Shakibai, the Director of the Phoenix's Match Night Crew. "Neil Morris and the Phoenix organisation have been so good to us, they've been right behind us all season long, but the offer from the Steeldogs was too good to turn down."
The move will see the Crew continuing their studies at Bolton University as normal, but with the production of Phoenix TV at Manchester Met Uni being shut down, and the newly developed Steeldogs TV being made in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University.
"We're very excited with the move to Sheffield," Ash continues. "The chance to work in a bustling metropolis with its own tram system is too good to ignore. Sure there will be a period of adjustment, what with Sheffield still becoming accustomed to having electricity and running water, but it's an exciting time for all concerned."
A spokesman for the Steeldogs was delighted that Ash and his crew had signed on to reinvigorate the Sheffield match night experience. "When it reaches the point where all of your home fans know all of the words to all nine of your stoppage music tracks, it's time to freshen things up. We can't stay stuck in the 90s forever."
