Parrish out for Giants date – reinforcements on the way for Sunday

Friday, 19th September 2003

Manchester Phoenix will be without defenceman Dwight Parrish for Friday nights’ trip to Northern Ireland to take on the Belfast Giants.

Parrish was adjudged a Match Penalty in Wednesday’s Challenge game away to the Hull Stingrays along with Stephen Johnson of the home side. Elite League disciplinary rules are such that the automatic one game suspension has to be served irrespective of the nature of the game in which it is collected.

Phoenix will give a fitness test to defenceman Eric Lind ahead of Friday nights’ game in the Odyssey Arena and he is expected to be given the all clear to play having sat out the first weekend of Elite League play with a minor muscle strain.

Meanwhile on the recruiting front, head coach Rick Brebant is hopeful of adding one or two reinforcements to his roster for Sunday nights’ home date against the Nottingham Panthers. “We’ve been working hard all week to find the right guys to bring in,” he noted. “Even on the return bus ride from Hull late on Wednesday night, we were talking to agents and players about this coming weekends games.”

He continued, “we thought we had a player arriving from Europe, but received disappointing news that he learned of a family tragedy just hours before he was due to leave and now won’t be coming – at least not in the short term. I’m very hopeful though that we will be able to draw on one or maybe two players to help make up our bench strength in the short term.”

Phoenix travel to Belfast on Friday to take on the Giants before returning home for a Sunday 5pm face-off against the Nottingham Panthers in the MEN Arena.
