Manchester Phoenix coach Tony Hand has confirmed the return of netminder Adam Summerfield for the 2010-11 season, a third straight year for the Cumbrian-born goalie.
Hand commented, "Adam has been a model of patience in the two years he's been with the club at this level. He understands his role as the back-up goalie, but he works as hard as anybody else on the team and that bodes well for him."
"It's sometimes difficult as a coach to throw a young goalie into the action, but when we had to due to the injury to Steve Fone, Adam did as well as we could have expected. He showed me that he has the raw potential and the key to his development will be to encourage to maybe believe a bit more in his own ability."
Summerfield himself stated, "I was surprised and delighted when Tony talked to me last week, I honestly wasn't expecting it. I was hoping of course to get the chance to come back, but didn't expect to hear from Tony till into the close season. It's great to be asked early and naturally I said yes in a flash."
"Getting asked to return just makes me want to work that much harder and it refreshes my focus even more for the remainder of this season. If I get the chance to play some more, I want to show Tony and everyone else that asking me back was the right thing to do."
