Wood suspension levied at two games

Tuesday, 13th October 2009

Phoenix officials were disappointed to learn on Tuesday evening that Ben Wood will be ineligible for this coming Saturdays' game away to the Slough Jets.

Wood was assessed a Match Penalty for Butt-Ending last Saturday in the game against the Sheffield Scimitars and the club had been hoping that the automatic one-game ban, served on Sunday against Peterborough, would be sufficient punishment.

GM Andy Costigan noted, "I wrote to the EIHA Head of Discipline asking for clarification of the suspension that Ben would have to serve, and Tuesday evening saw the reply come through confirming that Ben has been suspended for two games together with the mandatory five penalty points. It's fair to say we're a little disappointed in this decision, as when we reviewed our footage, the incident seemed to carry no malice although the referee obviously felt otherwise."

"Ben will travel to Slough on Saturday as part of the team, but won't be able to play any part in the on-ice action. We look forward to him returning to the line-up on Sunday when we take on Basingstoke."
