Just moments after his Phoenix players had secured their first win in the new Elite Ice Hockey League with a 4-0 shutout of the London Racers, Head Coach Rick Brebant confirmed his internal locker room appointments.
Experienced defenceman Jeff Sebastian has officially been named as the teams player/assistant coach with forward George Awada accepting the team captaincy. Supporting Awada as his alternate captains will be long-time Manchester hockey favourite Mike Morin and reliable defenceman Dwight Parrish.
Brebant noted, “George has already made a great impact on our hockey club and stands out as a leader amongst the guys. Mikey and Dwight are both great leaders in the locker room too and with their tremendous experience of playing in Britain, I think all three will gain the respect of the game officials each night for the calm manner in which they go about their respective roles.”
On naming Sebastian as the player/assistant coach Brebant added, “Sebby and I have known each other a long time, he knows the way I think and I know the way he thinks, and we are confident that the systems we are bringing to the team will work. I talked with him a lot during the season and together we will give our all to make this organisation and team successful. We have great leadership and experience in the room and that is tremendously important especially for the younger guys when look around for help and guidance.”
Phoenix are next in action on Wednesday when they travel to Humberside for the return challenge game against the Hull Stingrays, before returning to Elite League action with a Friday trip to Belfast and a Sunday home date against the Nottingham Panthers.
