Despite being outshot, Phoenix went to the first break with a 2-1 lead.

Phoenix, with Stephen Fone back out for the second period, again started with a goal. James Archer hit his second of the night, assisted by Tom Duggan and Scott McKenzie. MK had their chances with 3 power plays but the home special teams appeared to be mis-firing. The period ended with Phoenix up 3-1.

MK had a long five on three powerplay at the start of the third but Phoenix stood strong and saw out the advantage. A solid containing third period for Phoenix completed the game with an empty net goal from Michal Psurny on 59.33 after Lightning pulled goalie Alex Mettam for the extra outskater.

A happy band of Phoenix players and fans headed home with the points, looking forward to Sunday’s encounter at the Dome against the Swindon Wildcats.
