Result: Manchester Phoenix 4 - Peterborough Phantoms 1
Phoenix scorers: Archer, Koulikov, Cingel & Duggan
Phoenix took the ice with the purpose of re-dressing last night’s result in Peterborough where the depleted squad fell to a 3-1 defeat. The home side forwards dominated the early stages of the game and the “Wall” in the Phantom net, goalie Stephen Wall, had to show why he is reckoned to be one of the best in the league. He was beaten on 4.40 when James Archer scored. Assists went to Ciaran Long and Tom Duggan. Phoenix continued to test Peterborough’s defence throughout the period and deservedly doubled their lead on 16.10. Luke Boothroyd found Juraj Faith on the right. He found Slava Koulikov with an arrow of a pass and Slava scored at the back post. End of the first period and 2-0 to Phoenix.
Phoenix have had their tails up all game and made it 3-0 with a goal on 25.40. Martin Cingel scored assisted by Juraj Faith. The home side were playing fast, attractive hockey and the fans were on their feet again on 36.55. Tom Duggan shot from just inside the blue line after taking a pass from James Archer. Ladzi Harabin was given the second assist on the goal. That was enough for Stephen Wall and young Damian King replaced him in goal. End of two periods and Phoenix leading 4-0.
Peterborough came more into the game in the third period as Phoenix tired, however, the home side continued to be in control of the game. Luke Ferrara pulled one back for the Phantoms on 55.35 but Phoenix saw the game out for a welcome 2 points.
Man of the match awards went to Ciaran Long for Phoenix and Robbie Brown for the Phantoms.
