Tony hands Basiuk assistant coaching role

Thursday, 20th September 2007

Phoenix Player/Coach Tony Hand has appointed club captain Scott Basiuk as Assistant Coach with responsibilities for defence.

Hand commented, "Scott is a very level-headed person and a good captain for the team. He's hungry to succeed and willing to take on some additional responsibility that will help him in his long-term ambitions. We talked together with Davey Graham who handles the team bench on all game nights, and Scott will assist me in co-ordinating the defensive side of things."

Basiuk noted, "Coaching in the future is something I think I'd like to try and get into and so this early opportunity to help out is something I'm really keen to do. Tony is the head coach and Davey looks after things on game nights and that's working well for the team. I'll help out in training situations and that will help Tony in respect of allowing him to spend more time with the forwards. Whatever helps the team is good by me, and if I can improve my knowledge, that's a win-win as I look at things."

Next weekend, the Phoenix travel to Basingstoke on Saturday, before hosting the Nottingham Panthers at the Silver Blades Ice Dome on Sunday with face-off at 5.30pm.
