The off-ice report

Monday, 4th September 2006

Hull Stingrays have added Justyn Schollar to their forward ranks, taking him from Swindon Wildcats in the English Premier League.  "It will be a good experience in the top league," says Schollar.  "I am pretty confident I can make the step up.  It will certainly be a good test.  I know quite a few of the guys in Hull from last season, having played against them six times.  Hull is a good rink to play in and the fans really get behind their team.  I am looking forward to that and doing everything possible to help the Stingrays."

Edinburgh Capitals have continued their team-building with the acquisition of forward Darius Pliskauskas, who spent last season playing in Belarus and Latvia, as well as icing for Team Lithuania in the World Championships.  Also joining the forward ranks of the Caps is Andrej Rajcak, who joins Edinburgh after icing for EC Trend Dornbirn in the Austrian Nationaliga.  Current Caps forward Martin Cingel is aware of Rajcak having encountered him before, saying "I used to play against Andrej in my Slovak Extraleague days, he is a very good goalscorer.  He was always a first liner who was scoring a lot of goals and creating chances for his teammates against us."

Also icing for the Caps this season will be SNL players Iain Beattie, Ross Dalgliesh and Mark Garside, who will be on two-way contracts with the Edinburgh team.

Former Coventry Blaze netminder has reportedly signed for MHK VTJ Kezmarok.

Newcastle Vipers have added Canadian forward Brantt Myhres to their roster, taking him from Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights in the AHL.  Myhres has previously iced 154 times in the NHL for the Philadelphia, San Jose, Nashville, Boston and Washington teams, where he picked up over 600 minutes in penalties.  Vipers Coach Rob Wilson has a specific role in mind for Myhres, saying "Yes he's a big guy and has a physical presence, but he also will contribute to our offence.  You don't spend eight years in the NHL without being able to play hockey."

Belfast Giants will be without the services of Colin Shields this coming season, with the Brit signing for Texas Wildcatters in the ECHL.

John Wheaton, the forward released by Basingstoke Bison last week under the import quota rules, has signed for Youngstown SteelHounds in the CHL.
