The 'home away from home' game against the Telford Tigers was played on Wednesday 9th March at the Telford Ice Rink, with the Phoenix on the scoresheet as the home team.
The game got off to a rocky start for the 'home' team, as Luke Boothroyd picked up a Tripping penalty inside the first minute, and the Tigers capitalised through Daniel Davies on the powerplay. Assists went to Peter Szabo and Sam Zajac. At 15.49 the Tigers doubled their lead through Andrei Makrov, with assists going to Daniel Scott and former Phoenix player Joe Miller. Thomas Murdy in the Tigers net kept the Phoenix attack at bay, and despite a Phoenix powerplay late in the period, the score after twenty minutes was 0-2 in favour of the 'visitors'.
The second period saw the Tigers extend their lead further, first through Max Birbraer (assts Peter Szabo and Blahoslav Novak) and then Rick Plant (assts Dale White and Macauley Heywood) to put then at 0-4 before the Phoenix got off the mark just after the halfway point, Ben Wood with the goal and Robin Kovar and Martin Baranek with the assists. 1-4 at the end of the second.
The third period saw the Tigers capitalise on a tired Phoenix, and some defensive slip-ups that saw the scoreline added to by Rick Plant with a solo effort to give the Tigers a 1-5 lead at 51.27, and then in the final couple of minutes the game was rounded out with markers from Sam Zajac at 58.24 (asst Joe Miller) and Peter Szabo at 59.20 (asst James Smith) to send the Phoenix away on the receiving end of a 1-7 scoreline.
