Ben Wood confident of a bright future

Friday, 11th December 2015

Manchester Phoenix mainstay Ben Wood has revealed that the launch of the Supporters Trust has provided a huge boost to the playing squad.

To help fund the team for the remainder of the season, the new Supporters Trust has given fans the opportunity to secure the club’s future ahead of a return to Manchester for next season.

Ben commented: “As a group, we try not to focus on what goes on off the ice, but rumours over the club’s future were never going to be helpful.  However, the response from everyone around the club and from the fans shows how much people care, and this really rubs off on the players.

“There’s been a great atmosphere in training after what’s happened this week, and the players have noticed the buzz on social media which really helps.

“It’s essential that the club is back in Manchester next year, and as players, we’ll do whatever we can to help.  It will be great to be back in Manchester in a rink which is more central, and where the club will be in control of ice time and matches.”

For Ben, this season hasn’t been as big a transition as it has been for the rest of the Phoenix squad, after spending five years in Deeside in junior hockey: “I have some good memories from my time in Deeside and it’s been enjoyable to see some familiar faces.  The ice surface has been pretty good all year and the facilities are improving all the time.”

Finally, Ben outlines his ambitions for the remainder of the season: “Our minimum aim is to reach the playoffs and if we can avoid any further injuries, then we’re a dangerous team at home.”
