Manchester Phoenix played their first home game for two weeks against the Basingstoke Bison, again missing Stanislav Gron through injury, as Phoenix fans signed up for the new Supporters Trust.
Both sides picked up early penalties but neither was able to capitalise on the Powerplay, before Bison stunned Phoenix with two quick goals. Aaron Connolly got the opener on 8:03 as he was left unmarked in front of the net before former Shaun Thompson made it 2-0 at 12:34. Phoenix worked hard to get back in the game, as Michal Satek was denied by Bison netminder Jon Baston.
The second period saw more chances for the Phoenix but a superb top corner shot from Tomas Karpov on 33:22 made it 3-0 before Phoenix responded immediately as Satek converted a Robin Kovar pass at 34:04. Bison were awarded a late Powerplay and took advantage as Karpov passed from behind the net for Rene Jarolin to score at 38:34 as the period ended 4-1 to the visitors.
The third period saw Phoenix start brightly but they were unable to add to the scoreline, despite a couple of Powerplay opportunities, with Baston saving well from both Kovar and James Neil. The visitors did well to close out the rest of the game to claim a 4-1 win.
Phoenix have two home games next weekend in Deeside; starting with the Sheffield Steeldogs in the War of the Roses encounter on Saturday evening (7pm), followed by the Bracknell Bees on Sunday evening (6:30pm).
