Manchester Phoenix will receive a double boost on Friday morning with the arrival of two more new players to the roster and two men who have literally driven themselves crazy to join the club.
Defenceman Carl Greenhous and forward Chad Brandimore left Fort Worth in Texas in the early hours of Tuesday morning and took turns in driving approx 1700 miles to Ottawa in Canada in order to catch Thursday nights ‘red-eye’ flight to Manchester.
Phoenix coach Rick Brebant quipped, “These two guys should get off the plane as fresh as daisies – after driving that far in two days, they must have slept on the flight. Seriuosly though, they will barely have time to unpack before we’re on the plane Saturday to Belfast and their debuts against the Giants.”
Both 31-years old and right shots, Carl Greenhous and Chad Brandimore are no strangers to hockey in Britain having played here previously in the British National League and English Premier League. This season saw them start in Central Hockey League with the Fort Worth Brahmas.
Brebant commented, “I spoke at length with the former coach in Fort Worth and he told me that Carl is a no-nonsense stay-at-home defenceman who likes to keeps things simple while Chad is a busy, quick skater who creates turnovers and ‘mucks and grinds.’ They’ve got good size, know each other well having played together and they will add depth to our roster when we need it. Some might think debuting in Belfast will be a baptism of fire for them, but after their marathon trip to be here, I think they’ll take it well in their stride.”
