Manchester Phoenix 2 - Telford Tigers 6
Phoenix scorers: Michal Psurny and Frantisek Bakrlik
League leaders Telford Tigers paid a visit to the Dome on Saturday night and took the points with a dominant display. The visitors took just 3.19 to take the lead when Jason Silverthorn tipped a Martin Ondrej shot past Declan Ryan. The period ebbed and flowed with both sides making chances that never really troubled either netminder. The period ended with no further scoring and Telford holding a one goal lead.
Phoenix started the second period well and with just 2.26 gone, found an equaliser. Tony Hand found Michal Psurny on the right and the man from the Czech Republic wristed the puck high past Thomas Murdy. Phoenix had their best spell of the game after the goal and put the Tigers under pressure. They were unable to find the net again and, in a mad 6 minute spell half way through the game, lost 3 goals. Jason Silverthorn hit a quick double to score yet another hat trick against Phoenix and Tigers ended the period with a 4-1 lead when Jonathan Weaver netted from just inside the blue line on 38.28.
Any hope Phoenix had of a comeback was dashed 50 seconds into the third period when Blahoslav Novak made it 5-1. A minute later Nathan Salem completed Telford’s scoring with his team’s sixth goal. Frankie Bakrlik hit a consolation second goal for Phoenix with 8 minutes left to end the night’s scoring. Telford closed out the game to take both points back to Shropshire.
Coach Hand said after the game: “All credit to Telford on their win tonight. They played well and deserved the victory. However I was very disappointed with some performances tonight. We must step up our game tomorrow to compete against a very good side.”
