Phoenix add another to the roster

Tuesday, 20th August 2013

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix have added British forward Richard Bentham to the roster for season 2013-14.

This will be Richard’s second season with Phoenix after spending most of his career moving around the league.

He started in 2004 with the Nottingham Leopards under 19 team and signed a two-way contract with the Nottingham Lions and Leopards. His home town, Blackburn, signed him in 2006 where he iced for the Hawks ENL side and the Thunderhawks in the u-19 league.

At the end of his 4th season with Blackburn he went on loan for 2 games to the Romford Raiders in the EPL. He moved on again the next season, icing in 3 games for the Sheffield Steeldogs and 22 for the Wightlink Raiders. Invicta and Peterborough were his stops for the next year before signing at Phoenix in a utility role. Richard also represented Great Britain in the World Junior Championships back in 2007 and 2008.

Richard has iced over 100 games in each of the English National League and the English Premier League. Last season he picked up an EPL Playoff championship medal with Phoenix to add to the ENL South Championship medal he won in 2010. He brings a gritty style of play to the roster and is hoping to continue playing wherever Coach Hand wants him to.

He has iced a total of 219 games in senior hockey, scoring 67 goals and 48 at junior level.

Richard said of his signing: “Phoenix are a great club to play for and the fans are the best in the league. I am lucky to have a local club to play for and hope to help them to more silverware this coming season.”

Coach Hand: “Richard is a useful player to have on the roster. He is keen and, with his ability to play on defence and up front, it gives me more options.”
