Guildford Flames 7 - Manchester Phoenix 1
Phoenix scorer: Richard Bentham
J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix fell to a heavy defeat by an in-form Flames team in Surrey last night.
Despite taking a 10th minute lead through Richard Bentham, the depleted Manchester side, missing Stephen Fone and Joachim Flaten, succumbed to a 4 goal second period blitz that took the game beyond them. Ex Phoenix forward Curtis Huppe did most of the damage with a hat trick.
Coach Hand said after the game: “That was a tough result for us. Once again the lads gave me everything but the injuries are hurting us. We will work hard in training and be ready for the weekend. We still have a lot to play for and aim to finish as high up the league as we can. There is also our huge cup semi final against the Flames coming up and we will look to overturn their first leg lead and make our first EPL cup final.”
Phoenix travel to Slough to face Slava Koulikov’s Jets on Saturday before returning to the Dome to play Swindon Wildcats on Sunday with the usual 1730 face off.
