J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix have moved quickly to secure the services of Derek Campbell, just released by Sheffield Steeldogs.
Phoenix have again been hit by injuries and Tony Hand has moved swiftly to bring in cover.
Derek is no stranger to Phoenix fans, or indeed Coach Hand, as he played the 2006-07 season for the club scoring 25 goals, 42 assists and amassing 190 penalty points in that Elite League season. He has since iced for Newcastle Vipers, Coventry Blaze, Sheffield Steelers, Hull Stingrays and Sheffield Steeldogs. He is a proven striker with a physical presence well known to fans up and down the country.
Coach Hand said: “Our injury situation has hit critical levels and we needed cover as soon as possible. Derek is a proven player and I am positive he will be an asset for us in this busy fixture period. He has signed for 3 to 4 weeks and will go straight into the team as soon as registration is complete. I would really like to thank the Supporters’ Club for their invaluable help in making this happen. Their contribution has made the deal possible and they really have helped out in this time of need.”
MD Neil Morris commented: “Our injury list has been increasing over the last few weeks and Tony felt the need to bring in some cover to keep our league and cup challenge on track. Derek will do a job for us at this critical time of the season. We have a lot of games in a short space of time so needed to bolster the squad.
“I would like to thank the Supporters’ Club for financing this move. They are a fabulous asset to us and have really stepped up to the plate.”
