J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are pleased to announce the signing of young British forward Liam Chong.
The 20 year old Chelmsford born forward already has over 50 games under his belt in the English Premier League.
He played a couple of games for his home club, the Chelmsford Chieftains,in 2006 and followed that up the following season with 11 games for the Romford Buccaneers in the under 18 league. Liam then went across the pond for the 2009/10 season where he was part of the Midget level team at the highly regarded Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York. Invicta Dynamos in the English National league were next and Liam picked up 24 goals and 30 assists in 37 games that season, along with a couple of games with the Basingstoke Bison in the EPL. 2011-12 saw him stay in Basingstoke and he scored 6 goals and 8 assists for the Bison.
Liam has also represented Great Britain at Under 18 and Under 20 levels and last season was an assistant captain for the Under 20 side.
Liam had this to say: “I am really excited about coming to Manchester and playing with Tony Hand. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Basingstoke but I want to win trophies and Manchester looks the place to be. Everybody talks very highly of the organisation and I am sure I will learn a lot from Tony. I am a high energy type of player who finishes off my checks and will get goals for the team.”
Tony Hand commented: “Liam is an excellent signing for the club. I liked him when he played against us. He skates well, has good handling skills and a high energy game. He is a young lad with great potential and I am sure he will do a good job for the team.”
