Phoenix young guns taste victory with the Metros

Tuesday, 6th September 2011

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix youngsters Ciaran Long and Josh Ward played a full part in Trafford Metros’ exciting 5-3 win over the Nottingham Lions in the first English National League game of the new season.

Phoenix’s new signings played for the ENL side as the two sides forged a new co-operation moving forward into the new season.

Ward and Long each scored a goal and an assist as the Metros came back from 3-1 down to take the points. Josh scored a superb goal, blasting the puck into the top corner of the net and Ciaran hit an empty netter at the death to secure the win. All in all, an excellent performance by the Metros, ably assisted by the two Phoenix lads, eager to get their season under way.

Josh was excited about his debut for the organisation on Saturday night and said: “I really enjoyed the game and it was great to play against some of my old mates from Nottingham. It was good to get on the ice after a long summer and my goal was the icing on the cake. It just fell right for me and I managed to find the top corner. It was great to see so many Phoenix fans joining the Metros’ regulars and it made for a great atmosphere. The support for me and Ciaran was super and it was a great welcome for us.”

Ciaran also played on Sunday night in the Metros’ second win of the weekend at Solihull. They defeated the Barons 7-2 with Ciaran netting a hat trick and also had a bout of fisticuffs with one of the opposition.

Ciaran said after the game:”It felt good being back on the ice and I really enjoyed the weekend. The empty netter I got on Saturday was the best goal I have ever scored and then to follow that with a hat trick on Sunday, the weekend could not have been any better. I had a great weekend and really enjoyed the two games with the Metros. I am happy to play for the club at any level the organisation wishes. Already looking forward to next week.”
