Hand praise for Ben Wood and Phoenix supporters

Thursday, 25th February 2010

Manchester Phoenix head coach Tony Hand was full of praise for the supporters who travelled to Milton Keynes and for Ben Wood for his contribution to the teams effort on Wednesday.

Hand commented after his side had exited the EPL Cup semi-final, “I want to put on record my personal thanks to all the Phoenix fans who travelled to Milton Keynes tonight and also to those that travel week in, week out to support the team wherever we play. They got behind us tonight superbly in a situation where it would have been much easier not to bother to travel. They were brilliant and I hope they can stick with us for the rest of the season, there’s still a lot of hockey to be played and we’re not finished by any stretch of the imagination.”

Hand, in a rare moment of signing out of a player, heaped praise on Ben Wood saying, “Ben is a great kid, he shows up for practice, always gives of his best and tonight, played a tremendous game. He battled hard every time he was out there on the ice and I was delighted for him. Recently, he’s not had as much ice time as I’d like to give him, because the game situations have meant I’ve had to try and rely on the more experienced players, but tonight he showed a work ethic and battling spirit that cannot be bought. He’s never complained once, and I thought he was excellent tonight.”
