Phoenix team up with the University of Bolton

The University of Bolton and Manchester Phoenix Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce a collaborative partnership, initially aimed at enhancing Manchester Phoenix's ability to attract talented overseas players keen to continue their education while playing ice hockey in the UK.

The University has agreed to provide three bursaries each year to allow Phoenix players to study on University programmes. In addition, the University will provide assistance in helping Phoenix manage its educational initiatives in conjunction with a number of the University's other collaborative partners.

Neil Morris, Managing Director of Manchester Phoenix, is delighted with the new partnership, "This partnership will help us to attract players from North America and Europe, and it will incentivise them to either progress, or continue their education at the University while playing for Phoenix."

Dr Peter Marsh, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, was equally pleased with what he described as, 'another innovative example of the University's commitment to the local community.' He continued, "Everyone at the University is excited about the opportunity to further demonstrate our commitment to such a forward-thinking organisation."

Peter Moran, from the University's Business School, who been involved in the idea from the outset, identified some of the benefits to the University. "Neil Morris is an astute, inspirational business man. We see the partnership yielding opportunities from working in terms of student placements and projects with a number of our academic Schools, and helping raise our profile with Phoenix fans across the North West."
