On Saturday 16th February GB Sledge hockey held a coffee morning fundraiser at the Co-Operative Academy in Greater Manchester. The event was to raise money for the GB Sledge team to go and compete in Pool B of the Championships in Japan. This is also a very important event that could pave the way for the Sochi Paralympic games.
The GB sledge team consists of three Manchester Phoenix sledge players: Karl Nicholson, Anthony Booth, Steven Midghall and Rob Allen, who is also a penalty box attendant for the Phoenix EPL team.
The aim is to raise £2500 to help the team get there. During Saturday's event you could buy cakes, biscuits, raffle tickets and even donate to have a go at shooting on goal against GB Sledge net minder, Rob Gaze. The coffee morning was a great success and raised £335. On Sunday 17th, against the Guildford Flames, there was a “Guess the weight of the cake” competition which raised a further £45.
